From Honey Oak to Two-Tone
A THORNTON KITCHEN TRANSFORMATION
The Starting Point
The homeowners had traditional honey oak cabinets that were still functional, but the warm orange tones were making the kitchen feel dated. Rather than replacing cabinetry that still had plenty of life left, they chose to update the existing doors, drawer fronts, and cabinet boxes with a professionally painted finish.
A Two-Tone Color Palette
Instead of taking the entire kitchen to one neutral color, they selected a two-tone palette that completely changed the look and feel of the space.
The upper cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage HC-114, a soft-muted green that adds color without overwhelming the space. The lower cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Van Deusen Blue HC-156, providing a deeper contrast and grounding the kitchen.

Hardware Hole Repair & New Hardware Installation
Older cabinets often have existing hardware holes that don't line up with the new hardware or we placed in incorrect locations. For this project, we filled and repaired the original holes on the door fronts to switch knobs for new pulls. This created a smooth surface before priming and painting. Once the finish was complete, we drilled for and installed the new hardware in its updated position.
Drawer Box Replacement
One drawer box was damaged, so we partnered with Roll 'Em Out Shelves to manufacture a replacement drawer box. The new drawer was installed with soft-close glides and the newly painted front was installed to match the rest of the kitchen, giving the homeowners a fully functional and beautiful result.
The honey oak is gone, Saybrook Sage keeps the upper cabinetry light and inviting, and Van Deusen Blue adds richness and contrast below. Updated hardware provides the finishing detail, while the replacement drawer box means the kitchen isn't just more attractive—it's more functional, too.
